Wood has been on my mind lately.......
It's earthy, natural and there is always a history behind it. Does that tree have more rings than me?
I realize it's not my typical style......
but I believe Pinterest has opened my up mind to a range of visual inspirations.
This is a woody wow!
Butter Restaurant in NYC-one of our favorites from our trip 2010. The wood is stunning-day or night.
Butter at night-a gorgeous use of wood and light.
I'm seeing burl wood tables.....just about everywhere. I have reason to get comfortable with wood.....
I could see into the future that there was a new piece of wood moving into my home. I've always known it would probably end up with us.
1-Husband created burl tables as a side job in college +2-Husband made a burl table for his parents
+3- Parents home was recently sold =Answer: Burl table comes to our house
(you do the math)
This is our great room.........(on a foggy day-there is actually a view out there)
And this is the burl table Husband created. Honestly, I didn't know if I would 'care' for it (by that I mean like it) in our room. Sometimes blending his style/her style can be interesting.
I didn't know if it would end up being a little awkward.......
We moved it in, adjusted the angles and it seems to feel quite at home. We have banks of wood cabinets on either side of the great room with clean lines and a mid-century vibe so it works.
I haven't promised that it can stay here forever, but I quite like it, and the history behind it.
Husband, you did good!
Speaking of wood- This is a pretty spectacular house in Mill Valley, Northern California.
A little eye candy of the natural variety for you day.

Good morning, Heather! I love wood! I love to have at least one room in the home that feels earthy, or manly, and to me, that means a bit more wood and leather! Your husbands table is beautiful. To me, it's just the right accent, and the fact that he made it is fantastic. I, too, am always working to incorporate a "man's" taste, with a woman's when it comes to decorating. It can certainly be a challenge sometimes. And, last, I love the many creative uses of wood. I believe in recycling, repurposing, and reusing, and these pics feature several ways to do so. Have a beautiful day, Heather! xo
Hello Shelly! I'm sure with all boys in your family it has been a must as far as styling your home. I'm sure you've incorporated the more natural, wood and leather 'manly' elements beautifully. My husband and I have fairly similar tastes but it has certainly developed over time. When we first married our home had a French Country flair, and our current home has more of a mid-century/Tuscan vibe. I would say this one definitely reflects more of a masculine style. I am not surprised to hear you are into the recycling and repurposing. Your lovely photos often show a deep respect and love for the beauty of nature.
Happy Wednesday Shelly! xo
